Staying Home- The New Normal
Starting with my favourite hobby right now, sleep. Not only have I seriously upped my nap game the past few days but I am keeping the same wake up time and bed time, sticking to as much routine as possible. I am also getting dressed every day and not always into comfy clothes. This helps me feel more awake and motivated to be productive.
I'm starting to meditate which is something I have done in the past (in small doses), but now more than ever I'm catching myself craving a meditation session. This doesn't have to be anything fancy, I just look at it like a pause. If the only 5 minutes you get in your day is in the shower or going out to walk the dog, use it. I believe it is important to breathe, be silent and observe your thoughts without judgement. Meditation can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness. It has great benefits for your immune system, easing the day to day stress of your mind and body.
I'm also a lot more conscious of my food. Not only what I eat but how I prepare it. I'm making an effort to cook more and using my time wisely by, at the very least, making a nutrient filled breakfast. Relying less on take-out and processed foods. My boyfriend and I still eat dinner while watching our favourite Netflix show sometimes, but hey, baby steps.
Moving my body is also so SO important. Something I have been doing to break up my days is going for a walk outside. It helps to see other people (while keeping my distance), get some fresh air and remember you're not in this alone. Many health and fitness influencers are also doing live yoga sessions and workouts for free online that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Instagram is a great source, for a yoga flow check out Shayla Quinn and for some at home full-body work outs, check out Anna Victoria's page!
The virus we're experiencing in the world right now is real and deserves appropriate attention. However I know that the more I stress, the more I decrease immunity function in my body. I think it's important to be mindful of the situation we are in yet take necessary actions to keep our minds, bodies and mental health at its best. When this is all over we can come out of it healthy and feeling well.
